Genuine Puka Shells from cone shells create this upscale hippie retro choker. Creamy white, smooth, and matched puka shells are a great textural background for turquoise chip drum beads and a beautiful millefiori design clay tube bead with matte finish. These shells have a naturally occurring hole in the middle of rounded, domed, shell fragments. Popular with the surfer crowd in the 70s, today they are a collectible.
Be sure you are looking at genuine puka shells. There are many fakes in the market that are plastic or are other types of shell fragments but not Puka.
These Puka Shells were purchased in Hawaii in the very early 1970s. The necklace was later in the 70s, altered to include the turquoise beads.
The screw type clasp is oxidized silver metal that has turned dark. Because of the size, this is a great vintage jewelry opportunity for the petite woman or young girl. Appropriate for men or boys as well.
Size: 14.5 inches (36.8 cm)
